Looking for a way to create professional presentations with the ability to update them as needed? Wire Binding is your choice! Documents open easily and lie flat -- perfect for reference materials and training manuals.
For reports, proposals and presentations, documents will have a sleek, professional look and will be securely bound yet easily revised.
There are two main types of wire binding machines available: single loop and double loop binding. Single loop wire binding uses one wire per hole. Also called coil binding, single loop spiral binding resembles a spring once it is closed.
Double loop wire binding uses two wires per hole. This provides a stronger alternative to the single wire spiral binding. Double loop wire binding allows the document to lay flat and the pages to wrap all the way around. Double loop wire binding is commonly used for items such as hanging calendars.
Features to look for when choosing a wire binding machine:
- Punch capacity - how many sheets it can punch at one time
- Bind capacity - how many sheets it can bind at one time
- Paper sizes accepted
- Manual or electric
Description of Wire binding is:
There are three types of wire binding: 9/16" (19 loop), 2:1 (21 Loop),
& 3:1 (32 Loop). 19 loop wire is referred to as 9/16" because there is
9/16" spacing between the punched holes. This is the same punch
configuration as plastic comb bind. 2:1 or 3:1 is the ratio of holes per inch.
For example, 2:1 has 2 holes punched in every inch on the binding edge.
Advantages
Wire-bound books:
- have pages that can rotate 360 Degrees
- lay flat
- have a professional appearance
- are secure
9/16" (19-loop) wire is an easy way to upgrade from comb binding,
because this wire fits the same hole pattern that is punched by a plastic comb
punch. If you have a comb binding machine, you may decide to purchase one of our
inexpensive wire closers. A standalone loop wire closer is required, as you
cannot close wire binding with a plastic comb spreader. 19-loop wire is
available in 1/4" to 1" increments.
3:1 (32-loop) wire is the most popular of the three sizes of wire
bind. It is available in 3/16" to 9/16" increments, and will not bind
books over 9/16" thick.
2:1 (21-loop) wire is a great alternative to 32-loop wire if you are
binding books thicker than 9/16". It is available in 1/4" to
1-1/4" increments, and may be special ordered in 1-1/8" and
1-1/4" sizes.
How to Bind:
#1: Punch the sheets to be bound.
#2: Rotate your back page to the front of your document (this will hide where
your wire closes for a more professional look), and insert the wire into the
punched holes by hand.
#3: Place your book into the wire closer with the open side of the wire
touching the back of the closing wall. Pull the handle down with light pressure.
#4: Rotate your back cover to the front, and your book is bound!
